The Cottage

A rural retreat in the heart of Edinburgh

About the cottage...

Glenlockhart Cottage is the perfect base for exploring Edinburgh and many of Scotland’s treasures. Get your bearings by taking a short walk up the hill beside the cottage where you’ll enjoy fabulous views of the cityscape with many of Edinburgh’s historic landmarks all around, and far-reaching views out over the Pentland Hills, East Lothian and Fife

The cottage is decorated with exquisite attention to detail, brim full of light and period charm. It is warm and welcoming, with central heating throughout. Free high-speed wifi means you can keep in touch with the world (if you want to!). Everything has been thought of to offer a truly unique and special place to stay, perfect for a romantic getaway, two couples, friends or a family, with plenty of room for a cot too. It can be rented for short breaks or longer stays and is wonderfully equipped with everything you'll need

sleeping…

Upstairs, the bedrooms have sumptuous beds and deliciously luxurious mattresses and toppers, pure cotton hypoallergenic duvets and rich Egyptian cotton bed linen, with a choice of firm or soft pillows so you’ll enjoy a deep sleep. The master bedroom has a kingsize bed, the second bedroom can be made up as a superking bed or two large single beds – please let us know which you’d prefer before arrival. Each room has blackout blinds, wardrobe space, and a hairdryer. There’s a travel cot if needed, too

bathing…

The large bathroom has a walk-in rain shower and heated towel rail. There’s an ample supply of thick fluffy towels and locally-made ‘Scottish Fine Soaps’ hair, body and handwash products

cooking…

The stylish kitchen is wonderfully equipped with a range cooker (double oven, hob and grill), integrated fridge-freezer and dishwasher, Belfast sink, microwave and toaster, as well as all the crockery, cutlery, glasses, pots, pans and utensils you could need

Wake up to a perfect latte from the Nespresso coffee machine and milk frother, or a classic cafetiere. Try out the recipe books to whip up a breakfast feast and enjoy it at the dining table overlooking the garden, watching the birds at the feeders and the antics of the squirrels

The dining area has a wall-mounted 32” HD television with Freeview for those who like to catch up with morning news

relaxing inside…

The sitting room is south-facing and cosy, with an open fire (gas controlled, easy to use) and furnishings are soft with sumptuous cushions and throws. A Sony 40” Smart 4K television with Netflix, over 100 Freeview channels and a Blu-ray DVD player means you can snuggle up for an evening in with your favourite films

There’s a library stocked with classic and contemporary Scottish fiction, and books that will inspire you to explore Edinburgh and the highlands and islands of Scotland. You’ll also find board games for all ages and a small selection of children’s books and DVDs

…and out

The large private south-facing garden is secluded and fully-enclosed, with table and chairs making it a perfect spot to enjoy a long, slow breakfast or a glass of wine in the evening. Enjoy a quiet moment on the garden bench watching the wildlife, or relax with a book in the arbour under the ancient horse chestnut tree

accessibility...

This is a historic cottage and there are stairs to both bedrooms, please check before booking if you have any questions about the cottage's accessibility

for the little ones…

If you are holidaying with a baby or small children you can travel a little lighter, as we can provide a travel cot, high chair, baby bath, bowls and cutlery, step-up, changing mat, socket covers, stair gate, bed safety rail and potty. The garden is fully enclosed so youngsters can play in the fresh air

laundry…

There’s a laundry room accessed from the covered porch outside - originally the washhouse for the cottage, it is now equipped with washing machine, tumble dryer, clothes airer and eco-friendly laundry detergent

little extras…

The cottage is stocked with delicious Nespresso coffee pods, tea, sugar, tea towels, dishcloths, dishwasher tablets, bin bags, iron and ironing board, eco-friendly washing-up and cleaning detergent, and toilet tissue

We’ll provide details of supermarkets who will deliver provisions to the cottage, leaving your precious time free to enjoy your holiday

parking…

The cottage has its own private off-street parking area for two or more cars - although there’s no need for a car if you intend to sightsee in and around the city centre

pets…

Much as we love animals we have a strict non-pet policy to respect all guests’ requirements, in light of the fact that some have allergies to cat and dog hair, and for hygiene purposes

housekeeping…

The cottage is always meticulously cleaned and left fresh and spotless for new guests arriving. Fresh bedlinen and towels are provided for stays of longer than one week

welcome…

We personally welcome all our guests, then we will leave you in peace to enjoy your holiday. We live in the house next door so are always on hand if you need us
