The Cottage

A rural retreat in the heart of Edinburgh

About the cottage...

Glenlockhart Cottage is decorated with exquisite attention to detail, brim full of light and period charm. It is warm and welcoming, with central heating throughout, and free high-speed wifi means you can keep in touch with the world (if you want to!)

Everything has been thought of to offer a truly unique and special place to stay, perfect for a romantic getaway, two couples, friends or a family, with plenty of room for a cot too. We offer short breaks or longer stays and the cottage is equipped with everything you'll need to enjoy your holiday

sleeping…

Upstairs, the bedrooms have sumptuous beds and deliciously luxurious mattresses and toppers, pure cotton hypoallergenic duvets and rich Egyptian cotton bed linen, with a choice of firm or soft pillows so you’ll enjoy a deep sleep

The master bedroom has a kingsize bed, the second bedroom can be made up as a superking bed or two large single beds – please let us know which you’d prefer before arrival. Both rooms have blackout blinds, wardrobe space and hairdryers. There’s a travel cot too, if needed

bathing…

The large bathroom has a walk-in rain shower and heated towel rail. There’s an ample supply of thick fluffy towels and locally-made ‘Scottish Fine Soaps’ hair, body and handwash products

cooking…

The kitchen is fully equipped with a range cooker (double oven, hob and grill), integrated fridge-freezer and dishwasher, Belfast sink, microwave and toaster, as well as all the crockery, cutlery, glasses, pots, pans and utensils you could need

Wake up to a perfect latte from the Nespresso coffee machine and milk frother, or a classic cafetiere. Try out the Scottish recipe books to whip up a feast and enjoy it at the dining table overlooking the garden, watching the birds at the feeders and the antics of the squirrels

The dining area has a wall-mounted 32” HD television with Freeview for those who like to catch up with the morning news over breakfast

relaxing inside…

The sitting room is south-facing and cosy, with an open fire (gas controlled, so instant and easy) and soft furnishings with sumptuous cushions and throws. A Sony 40” Smart 4K television with Netflix, 100+ Freeview channels and Blu-ray DVD player means you can snuggle up for an evening at home with your favourite films

There’s a library stocked with classic and contemporary Scottish fiction, and books that will inspire you to explore Edinburgh and the highlands and islands of Scotland. You’ll also find board games for all ages, a selection of children’s books and DVDs, and a hamper of toys for younger children

…and out

The large private south-facing garden is secluded and fully-enclosed, with table and chairs making it a perfect spot to enjoy a long, slow breakfast or a glass of wine in the evening. Enjoy a quiet moment on the garden bench watching the wildlife, or relax with a book in the bothy under the ancient horse chestnut tree

accessibility...

The cottage is a historic Grade II listed building and there are stairs to both bedrooms, please check before booking if you have any questions about accessibility

laundry…

The laundry is accessed from the covered porch outside - originally the washhouse for the cottage, it is now equipped with washing machine, tumble dryer, clothes airer and eco-friendly laundry detergent

for the little ones…

If you are holidaying with a baby or small children you can travel a little lighter, as we can provide a travel cot, high chair, baby bath, bowls and cutlery, step-up, potty, changing mat, socket covers, stair gate and fire guard. The garden is fully enclosed so youngsters can play safely in the fresh air

little extras…

The cottage is stocked with delicious Nespresso coffee pods, tea, sugar, tea towels, dishcloths, dishwasher tablets, bin bags, iron and ironing board, eco-friendly washing-up and cleaning detergent, and toilet tissue

We’ll provide details of supermarkets who will deliver provisions to the cottage, leaving your precious time free to enjoy your holiday

parking…

The cottage courtyard provides private off-street parking for two or more cars - although a car is not essential for sightseeing in the city as the cottage is on an excellent bus route to all major attractions and the bus stop is only three minutes walk

The cottage has its own Asgard secure store for bicycles (up to four adult bikes), golf and/or winter sports equipment, and a wash-down area for muddy bikes

on arrival…

You'll find a bottle of wine chilling in the fridge (along with fresh milk, bread, butter and eggs), fresh flowers in the hallway, and a welcome basket of Scottish treats

We personally welcome all our guests, then we will leave you to enjoy your holiday. We live in the house next door, so are always on hand if you need us

housekeeping…

The cottage is always meticulously cleaned for new guests arriving. Fresh bedlinen and towels are provided for stays of longer than one week

pets…

Much as we love animals, we have a 'no pets' policy to respect guests who have allergies to cat and dog hair
